Editing - Coke Advert (Me and Tommy)

Editing techniques

  • Eye-line shot is used when the two characters, in the role of father and daughter in a car both look at the Cola lorry going by and then theres a shot of the lorry going past them. This is used to show how the characters are feeling, showing a happy and loving moment.
  • Linear narrative is used throughout the advert to help set the mood, of the scene.
  • Match on action is used at parts of the advert to connote that the lorry is making its journey through the local town.
  • Continuity Editing is used to set a sense of reality

How does editing in the Coca Cola advert, construct the meaning about the relationship between the characters?

The editing in this advert shows that there is a good relationship between the characters. This is shown by the happy faces of the characters when the Coca cola lorry drives past. The eye-line match is a good example of this becuase the father and daugher share a happy and loving moment when the Coca cola lorry goes past. A happy relationship is also shown when the daughter looks out of her car and sees father christmas come to life, and he raises his glass to show a happy gesture.
